Just got done with a great 30 minute job coaching session. I got some good leads to follow-up on. I love bringing hope to those who have none, so hopefully some of these leads will help lead me to a place where I can do that all the time.
Shauna Niequist is continuing her presentation. She says there are “Two myths about our stories: that they are only about us, and that because they are only about us they don’t matter. They’re not about us, and they matter more than we know.”
“The pulpit can’t be the only place where the story of God is told.” – Shauna
“I’m not interested in hearing about war and poverty from someone sitting behind a desk or standing behind a pulpit.” – Shauna
Now Mimi Haddad is back. Hopefully this will flow better for me this time around. She’s focusing on women this time, treating women Jesus-style.
“We find male supremacy in every religion, east, west, north and south.” – Mimi
“For Jesus, women were daughters of God and welcome in God’s Kingdom.” – Mimi
“Though Christ worked in a patriarchal culture, at every turn he undermined it.” – Mimi
“Women were the most sensitive to this newness of life in Christ.” – Mimi
Great, heartfelt presentation by Mimi. Her passion really came through, even through her cold.
Now Sybil MacBeth is up, discussing “praying in color–doodling redefined.”
“I’m not an artist, but I’m a doodler.” – Sybil
She prays through doodling for the individual she’s praying for. She can’t sit still, but by drawing she’s able to focus better. You try to keep your hand moving so your body doesn’t get distracted.
Now we’re all doing doodle prayers. We first prayed to God, then 3 people mentioned by the participants. A lot of folks really seemed to like this.
Alise Barrymore is next, and she’s talking really fast. I’m not sure when she’s taking a breath, it’s intense. She calls herself a princess warrior on the video projector.
She started a non-denominational church community for the “DQ’d” in Chicago. “It ain’t my momma’s church or my grandma’s church either. They cringe when they come to visit ’cause they don’t know what it is, until they feel the Spirit.”
“Maybe the script that I was handed was not the script that I was supposed to live.” – Alise
We need to grow not up, but gr(d)own.
“The goal is not to grow up, blow up, or live larger, but to grow down.” – Alise
“It’s not black and white, but purple.” – Alise
“We need to make it possible for people to belong before they believe.” – Alise
“God is most visible when it is darkest.” – Alise
We need to develop the character to sustain our gifting and the places God has called us.
“The goal is to have w-holiness like God is w-holy.”
“We must mirror the nearness of God.” -Alise
“God is not only divine but fully human.” -Alise
“We must not be so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good.” -Alise
“W-holiness is a desire to be made complete.” -Alise
“We must focus on something higher and loftier than being right, like being nice … nice to ourselves, nice to the earth, and nice to the other.” -Alise
“Be committed to concentric circles of Christian compassion, love God, love yourselves, and love the people God loves.” -Alise

Wow, I just posted a bunch of those to my facebook status updates!!
Things are NOT black and white, I am always saying that. But saying they are purple – as opposed to any other color – denotes the royalty of Jesus. Nice. Simple statement, but packs a punch and goes deep.
I fully agree that we need to make a place for people who are not “believers” to come and reside with us.
I liked also the heaven-minded comment, since I believe firmly that eternity begins today, not tomorrow.
Uh-oh, I have to be nice instead of right? This is a necessary reminder for me. Thank you.
